The East Chicago Police Department has been working to make the City safer through various community outreach activities. One of these is the Citizen’s Academy which allows East Chicago residents to take a course to learn more about what ECPD officers do. They even get to participate in hands-on activities and outings to really get a feel for the job. Once program participants graduate from the course, they have the opportunity to serve as Ambassadors for the community. In this role, they bring residents’ concerns to the department and serve at community events. One type of event that Ambassadors contribute at are neighborhood security walks. These walks allow officers to interact with residents, answer questions and field suggestions. Check out this video to learn more about neighborhood security walks in East Chicago.
