When students are out of school for the summer, boredom can set in. This may prompt children to get involved in some potentially dangerous activities. The Boys and Girls Clubs of Northwest Indiana provide a variety of summer camps to help keep kids in a fun and safe environment all summer long.

One Boys and Girls Clubs camp that is new this summer is called Camp Tomorrow. This camp offers participants a variety of activities every day. These include arts, team sports, outdoor adventures, computer activities, educational programs, a room for teens, board games, playground time, and field trips. All of these activities ensure that Camp Tomorrow offers something for every East Chicago kid.

Camp Tomorrow runs Monday – Friday from June 12 to August 11 out of the East Chicago Katherine House, from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. All East Chicago kids aged 5 – 17 are able to register, so long as they also purchase a Boys and Girls Clubs membership.

The Foundations of East Chicago (FEC) wanted to ensure that East Chicago children were able to take advantage of this exciting new summer camp, so they offered a grant to the Boys and Girls Club of NWI that would cover all fees for the first 80 East Chicago youth to sign up for the camp.

While these 80 slots filled up fast, there are still ways for those interested in joining Camp Tomorrow to pay reduced fees. FEC had agreed to pay the membership, registration, and field trip fees for 80 campers, however, approximately 20 of these campers already had club memberships. This means that FEC will still pay the club membership fee for 20 youth who sign up for Camp Tomorrow needing one. The parents would be responsible for the camp registration and field trip fees.

Additionally, children who are insured by Medicaid have the opportunity to have their club membership fee sponsored by their insurance provider. Once again, camp registration and field trip fees would be paid by the parents.

Camp Tomorrow offers a greater variety of field trips and activities than many other camps, and there are still opportunities for many East Chicago children to participate at a discounted rate. For more information on East Chicago summer youth programs, visit www.FoundationsEC.org.
