Mental Health America of Lake County (MHALC), the headquarters for which have long sat in Crown Point, will now be moving to Hammond, making this resource more accessible to residents of western Lake County.

The organization will be moving into a two-floor lease space at 5311 Hohman Avenue that is owned by First Merchants Bank. The space was chosen not only because of its central location for many living west of I-65 but also to accommodate MHALC’s growing staff.

“We have had marked growth in staffing over the past two years, going from approximately 40 employees to 70 and counting, making it imperative to provide more space and cross-communication opportunities for our program teams,” said president and CEO Renae Vania-Tomczak in a press release.

MHALC provides information to help make the public more aware of local mental health provider choices. They also educate the community on many other locally based programs such as Healthy Families Lake County, Parents as Teachers, Empowering Teens as Parents, Infant Safe Sleep Education and I’m Thumbody Special.

“A unified headquarters has been on our wish list for some time,” said Vania-Tomczak. “With the help of our Board of Directors, we have been able to turn this concept into an exciting reality sooner than imagined and are looking ahead with great appreciation for where we are today – and with great anticipation of continued growth and service to the community.”

Organizations like MHALC share the same ambitious outlook as the Foundations of East Chicago. With these organizations, our community can continue to receive assistance for many areas of life.
