For the last seventeen years, George Weems has served the Foundations of East Chicago as a board member but as of Jan. 1, 2015 he will be assuming the role of interim executive director.

“My background is in finance,” Weems said. My desire to apply my skills in helping the community is what originally brought me to the Foundations of East Chicago.”

In addition to serving on the board, Weems has also served on the grant committee.
“In my new role, my goals are to ensure that that the Foundations of East Chicago remains at the level that it is now and that we continue to move forward until a new executive director is put in place.

Prior to his work with the Foundations of East Chicago, Weems served as Senior Vice President for PNC Bank, formally First National Bank of East Chicago, for thirty-two years. Also a long-time resident, Weems is dedicated to the health and well-being of the community.

“I’ve seen the Foundations of East Chicago grow as an organization by learning the process, what’s good for our city, looking at organizations who we feel have stability within our city and looking at programs we feel will have an impact within our city,” Weems said. We do our best to do what’s best for our city.
