In a time when many people cannot afford medical insurance and don’t have access to proper health care, one organization is working to make sure that everyone in Northern Indiana can see a doctor.

HealthLinc, Inc. is a health care system with six branches across Northern Indiana that provides affordable health care for everyone, regardless of medical insurance status. Their services include: medical care, dental care, vision care, behavioral health care, pharmacy, pediatrics, obstetrics, community outreach and health insurance enrollment assistance.

HealthLinc’s newest location is in East Chicago, IN, where the organization has recently partnered with Foundations of East Chicago (FEC), a local non-profit that provides grants to organizations that benefit the community.

In 2015, FEC awarded one of their general operating grants to HealthLinc East Chicago, which was used to hire a perinatal care team nurse for the organization’s obstetrics office.

“HealthLinc East Chicago is serving the health care needs of a community that has approximately 9% infant mortality rate, which is higher than the state average 7.7%,” said Eleather Baker, HealthLinc’s Director of Corporate Strategy. “Our perinatal care team nurse works as an extension of our board certified obstetrics physician and other care team members to ensure that patient education, prenatal and postnatal care, and care management services for the pregnant mothers and their babies are coordinated.”

Since the onboarding of the perinatal care team nurse last year, HealthLinc East Chicago has been able to provide care management services to nearly 100 pregnant mothers in the East Chicago community.

Baker says that the East Chicago branch has been seeing an increasing number of patients over the past year and HealthLinc is excited to be able to provide them all with quality health care.
