Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) is a community health program that partners new moms with registered nurses during the early stages of their pregnancies. NFP ensures a well-directed transition into motherhood by offering affordable assistance.

The model of the NFP is based on evidence obtained from randomized, controlled trials. The research shows that communities that adopt the NFP model gain a solid return on their investment. The RAND Corporation reports that for every dollar the community invests in NFP, they can potentially see up to $5.70 in return.

The goals of NFP are as follows:

  1. 1. Improve pregnancy outcomes by helping women engage in good preventive      health practices, including thorough prenatal care from their healthcare providers, improving their diets and reducing their use of cigarettes and other harmful substances.

  1. 2. Improve child health and development by helping parents provide responsible      and competent care.

  1. 3. Improve the economic self-sufficiency of the family by helping parents develop a vision for their own futures.
