When the weather starts to get cooler each November, there is nothing like a spicy chorizo dish to help you keep warm. Or, better yet, partake of a buffet of chorizo-based samples prepared by students studying to be professionals in the restaurant and hospitality industry!

The seventh annual El Popular – Ivy Tech Chorizo Contest is set to take place on Friday, November 4 at Ivy Tech Community College’s Foundations of East Chicago De La Garza Campus. Each year, the contest is sponsored by the owner of El Popular Chorizo, Edward Garza.

All hospitality students at the Ivy Tech East Chicago and Michigan City campuses are welcome to compete. Each participant will create an original dish or dessert using El Popular Chorizo. Those who create the winning dishes will receive an Ivy Tech three credit scholarship or cash prizes.

The tasting portion of the event will begin at 5 p.m. All in attendance will have to opportunity to taste as many dishes as they like. Winners will be announced at 7 p.m.

Event tickets are only five dollars each when purchased ahead of time through the Business Office at the East Chicago, Gary, Michigan City and Valparaiso campuses. Tickets can be bought at the door for six dollars.
