Symphonic and Orchestral Music and Children

Playing classical music such as Beethoven and Mozart for the youth, advances their focus and self-discipline, a new study suggests.

Youngsters also improve their general listening, social, and interpersonal skills by being exposed to the works of composers including but not limited to Ravel, Shostakovich and Mendelssohn.
Moreover, they are likely to appreciate a broader range of music in later years, according to a study from the Institute of Education, IoE, University of London.

Susan Hallam, professor of education and music psychology at the IoE, evaluated a program developed by Apollo Music Projects which introduces children aged seven to ten to classical music and its composers.

Foundations of East Chicago and UNIVERSO recognize the life changing impact that exposure to Orchestra and Symphonic band music has on the youth. Which is why they are dedicated to encouraging East Chicago students to learn more about this genre. UNIVERSO’s initiative involves Northwest Indiana Symphony Orchestra, South Shore Orchestra, and other organizations determined to expand local young adults’ horizons.
