Ira Hall, a student at East Chicago Central High School, was a 2017 recipient of the Foundations of East Chicago (FEC) scholarship. Scholarships are awarded to outstanding students in need of financial help to attend college. She received $3,000 and will be attending Indiana University Bloomington, with a major in Criminal Justice.

Just as she was encouraged by older students, teachers and other adults to apply for the scholarship, she bluntly tells younger students to apply and be honest.

“Don’t lie on your application, because they will find out. Also, don’t be lazy, and just type anything in your essay.”

She adds that the FEC scholarship took a lot of stress off her life so she didn’t have to worry about student loans.

“I would like to tell FEC thank you for the great opportunity that you all have given me.”
