With the high cost of a college education these days, applying for scholarships has become a vital part of the process of preparing for school. While it is important to apply for as many scholarships as possible to reduce your student debt, some highly competitive national scholarships offer awards in such large amounts, that receiving just one could have you set for your entire college career. Below you will find some of these ‘big ticket’ scholarships with application deadlines that have not yet passed.

  • Coca-Cola Scholars: These scholarships are awarded to high school seniors with a minimum GPA of 3.0. They are renewable for up to four years and are distributed in amounts of $10,000 and $20,000. The deadline for these scholarships is October 31st, so be sure to get your application in quickly!
  • Intel Science Talent Search: High school seniors with impressive research projects can submit their research to Intel for a chance at a scholarship. Forty finalists are chosen and each is awarded $5,000. Then a grand prize winner is selected to receive a $100,000 scholarship! The deadline for this contest is November 20th.
  • Gates Millennium Scholars: Each year, the Gates Millennium Scholars Program awards several Federal Pell Grant-eligible minority students with renewable scholarships of approximately $12,000. Recipients must be high-achieving students and must be nominated by an educator. Applications are due by January 15th.
  • Dell Scholars Program: This program awards $20,000 scholarships to high school seniors who have financial need and plan to attend college right after completing high school. Additionally, applicants must have participated in an approved college readiness program during high school. The deadline for this scholarship is January 15th.
