In East Chicago, it gets cold in the winter. COLD. And with the dropping temperatures comes increasing costs of heating bills.

For those experiencing difficulties paying their utility bills, Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Gary is offering financial assistance for NIPSCO costs for residents of East Chicago exclusively. Those eligible must meet income guidelines of falling within the 200% of the poverty line, and must be able to provide valid documentation. Contact Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Gary for the required documents in order to qualify.

All clients must attend a three hour financial management/self-sufficiency education class. Eligible clients will have their utilities extended for 30 days. This is measured by case managers calling NIPSCO for each participant. Pre-and post-testing will be done regarding household financial management for those taking the class.

If you are in need of assistance paying utility bills, please do not hesitate to contact Catholic Charities. They are a Foundations of East Chicago (FEC) grantee, available to help residents of East Chicago. Learn more about this grantee by clicking here.
