East Chicago is full of students with big dreams. One Foundations of East Chicago (FEC) scholarship recipient, David Bork, was able to follow his dream of a career in sports, and he encourages other EC students to do the same.

“The sky is the limit and the future is bright in East Chicago,” said David. “You can do anything you set your mind to.”

David graduated from East Chicago Central High School in 2012 before going to Purdue University Northwest to pursue a degree in Communication and Public Relations.

“My college experience has been so much fun. I stayed busy all the time,” said David, who worked at the school newspaper and in the athletic department while also contributing to the writing of a 500-page book for one of his public relations courses.

During his time with the PNW athletic department, David realized that a career that involves combining his passions of sports and media is something that he wanted to continue after graduation. Currently, David works as the Sports Information Assistant for PNW as well as the Director of Sports Information for the Northwest Indiana Oilmen Baseball Club.

David credits his FEC scholarship with making it possible for him to realize his dreams.

“It has helped me be in less debt and gave me less to worry about when I got out of school,” he said.

David believes that what FEC does to help the youth who live in the community is great and is glad to see the scholarship program growing.

“I want to thank them for helping me throughout college, making me prepared for college, and helping me pay for college,” David said of FEC.
