  • Mother/ Nurse relationships are important for child development

Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) is an organization that helps meet mothers’ needs when it comes to having their first child. The nonprofit provides registered nurses to women for in-home visits early in their babies’ lives.

The nurses at NFP exhibit several characteristics that qualify them to assist mothers in need. The nurses are client-centered which means they adapt to ensure that the materials and services provided to the parents meet their individual needs.

The nurses are also relational, meaning that they understand that their relationships with the mothers are essential during the children’s developmental years.

Finally, NFP nurses are multi-dimensional. They understand NFP’s mission and how it is tied to the way families function. Understanding the behaviors of the parent and child is part of the main objective of the nurses in the program. This way, they are able to formulate solutions to potential questions and problems.
