Each year, the Foundations of East Chicago (FEC) awards General Operating Grants to programs and organizations whose missions align with FEC’s goal; to benefit the people of East Chicago. Recipients of these grants can use the funding for various operating expenses from facility work to supplies to services provided to East Chicagoans in need. FEC receives many applications for General Operating Grants each year and, this year, had more applicants than funds to give. Some of the organizations and programs that were selected to receive FEC assistance in 2016 are:
-First Tee of Hammond: This organization teaches kids in East Chicago schools about life skills and healthy habits learned through golf.
-Food Bank of Northwest Indiana: The funds will be used to provide training and build capacity of services with partner agencies in East Chicago.
-Getting Out Our Dreams (G.O.O.D.): This organization provides youth services, educational enrichment, clothing giveaways and community awareness in East Chicago.
-Greater Destiny Bible Church: This church will use the funds to complete facility improvement projects and to help pay for professional development for church staff.
-Healthy East Chicago: This organization offers many programs that contribute to the mental and physical health of East Chicago residents including counseling, classes and financial assistance.
