This year, the Foundations of East Chicago saw the most impressive group of applicants in the 17 years we’ve been awarding scholarships. The upshot? We awarded a record number of students a record dollar amount of scholarships, and look forward to great achievements by them.
On May 29, in ceremonies at East Chicago High School, 62 students from six regional high schools, along with adult continuing education students, were awarded $190,000 in scholarships. This boosts to 765 the number of scholarships we’ve awarded to East Chicagoans since our inception, for a total of nearly $5.4 million.
Recipients received scholarships ranging from two-year awards for students attending Ivy Tech Community College to four-year renewable scholarships worth as much as $6,000. For more photos of the ceremony and a list of our scholarship winners, visit Scholars on our website.
Over the years, our scholarship winners have used their awards to attend 108 schools across the country, ranging from the Ivy League – Harvard – to the U.S. Naval Academy to universities closer to home like Indiana State, Valparaiso and Purdue.
We’re proud of the tradition we’ve established of helping our young people reach for their future. And we’re proud of what they’ve accomplished.
