In addition to grants and scholarships, the Foundations of East Chicago (FEC) also awards donations to some organizations upon request. However, the process for awarding donations is slightly different from that of distributing grants.

Organizations seeking a donation from FEC must complete the donation request form on the website. After this is complete, donations will be awarded on a case by case basis and are not guaranteed. The most any organization can receive in FEC donations for one calendar year is $1000.

One group that took advantage of the FEC donation option is East Chicago Urban Enterprise Academy (ECUEA). They used the donation to help fund their 8th grade trip to Washington D.C.

The students and teachers left East Chicago on a bus on May 1 and made their way to the capitol. They experienced all of the history and the culture that D.C. had to offer before arriving back in East Chicago on May 5. Some of the sites that our students visit were:

-The White House

-Arlington National Cemetary

-The Iwo Jima War Memorial

-The September 11 Pentagon Memorial

-The Korean War Veterans Memorial

-The Lincoln Memorial

-Mount Vernon

-The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum

-The Washington Monument

-The World War II Memorial

-The Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial

-Ford’s Theatre

-The Library of Congress

The United States Capitol

-The Supreme Court

Both the Senate and the House were in session when our East Chicago students visited the capitol. The trip provided them with the opportunity to get a closer look at many of the things that they learned about in their history classes.

While FEC donations are not meant to fund entire programs, they do offer supplemental funding to make experiences like that of the ECUEA 8th graders possible. To learn more about FEC donations, visit www.FoundationsEC.org.
