While the Foundations of East Chicago (FEC) scholarship program helps East Chicago students to get to and through college, the efforts of the program can have a much longer lasting impact on some recipients.
Clamae Bullock received a $2,500 renewable scholarship from FEC when she graduated from East Chicago Central High School in 2012. She used that money to pursue a degree in Business Administration at Ball State University, which she completed this past May.
“I applied for FEC because I was going to college and needed all the aid that I could get,” explained Clamae. “And if my city was offering an opportunity to receive aid, I was going to take advantage of that opportunity.”
While her college experience may not have been all that Clamae expected, she was grateful to have the help of the FEC scholarship when it came to reaching her educational goals.
“My college experience was a rollercoaster ride to say the least, but receiving the FEC scholarship impacted my college career in a very positive way,” she said. “With all of the things to worry about, thanks to FEC, finances were one less thing.”
Now that she has graduated, Clamae hopes to relocate to Dallas, Texas once she finds a job out there. However, although she may be leaving her hometown behind, she will never forget what FEC and the city of East Chicago gave her.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Foundations of East Chicago from the bottom of my heart for everything that they have done for me,” said Clamae. “In the future, I will contribute whatever I possibly can to pay that kindness you have shown me forward.”
