The opportunity to attend college is the opportunity to follow one’s dreams. This was most definitely the case for East Chicago native Raymond Flores.
Raymond graduated from East Chicago Central High School (ECCH) in the year 2005 with dreams of going into television and radio production. He was prepared to take out loans to make this dream a reality however, he knew he would be paying back those loans for some time.
During his senior year at ECCH, Raymond applied for and was selected as a recipient of the FEC scholarship. FEC awarded Raymond $5,000 to be used towards funding his education.
“It totally changed my life,” said Raymond of his FEC scholarship. “The scholarship allowed me to afford college and not take out so many student loans.”
Raymond used the scholarship to cover some of the cost of his tuition at Columbia College Chicago where he obtained his degree in Radio and Television Broadcasting. He is now using this degree and working for ESPN Chicago.
Raymond says that, without the FEC scholarship, he would not have been able to afford to attend college, earn his degree and work in the field that he loves.
