For over 25 years, Foundations of East Chicago has taken pride in their scholarship program and providing East Chicago residents with the opportunity to receive an education and better their futures. This year the Scholarship application went live on October 2, 2023 and will remain open until January 16, 2023. We look forward to receiving all the applications and more than that, we always look forward to hearing back from our recipients.
This year we heard back from Raina Gillis who received the FEC scholarship in 2019. Gillis, a Bishop Noll graduate applied for the scholarship and went on to study at Western Michigan University. While at WMU, she studied Speech- Language Pathology and minored in Spanish. Gillis speaks fondly of her experience at college and says, “I have been able to travel the world, make mistakes and learn from them, and try things that had never crossed my mind before.”
As she wrote to us from Spain, while she was studying abroad, she told us about her plans for the future. She will be taking a gap year and then has plans to attend grad school in the Fall of 2024.
Gillis understands the value of the FEC scholarship and credits the extra assistance with alleviating the financial strain not only on her but on her mom as well. She stresses the importance of applying and wishes all high school students would know the following: “There are so many door that opens for you if you apply and remain consistent in your studies.”
Gillis finished up by expressing her gratitude to FEC, “Thank you all so much for granting me the opportunity to further my education and allowing me to do things I only dreamed of when I was younger! I am so appreciative of all the support the Foundations has given me these past 4 years.”
With testimonies like this, we hope it encourages our East Chicago high school seniors to apply for the scholarship. For more information visit our website at https://foundationsec.org/high-school-scholarships/
