To worry about maintaining a well-structured financial status while transitioning from high school to college is common for all students. Foundations of East Chicago (FEC) scholarship recipient, Andy “AJ” Rodriguez, said he knew a great opportunity was approaching him as he received assistance in paying for his higher education when completing high school at East Chicago Central.
Rodriguez, who graduated from Saint Joseph’s College while majoring in physical education and minoring in secondary education, said his plans after completing college were to be a football coach and teacher. With the help of FEC, Rodriguez currently is fulfilling his goal by teaching and coaching.
“FEC has always been a part of my family,” Rodriguez said. “I will forever be grateful to everyone who is a part of such an amazing foundation.”
Rodriguez said receiving the scholarship from FEC helped relieve the pressure put on his mother when it came to funds. For this reason, Rodriguez recommends that current students take advantage of these opportunities that are not always presented to them.
“College is what lays the foundation for your future in most cases,” Rodriguez said. “I went to college a young man not really sure about life, and came out a man ready to tackle any obstacle that would present itself.”
FEC has been assisting students financially with several opportunities for scholarships yearly. For more information about scholarships and their recipients like Andy “AJ” Rodriguez, visit foundationsec.org.
