A major theme of Foundations of East Chicago is education and 2015 was a big year for that. One event that showcased this focus was the Non-Profits Social Media Marketing class.
With social media advancing in prevalence and popularity, many organizations are attempting to self-teach themselves the functions of the various channels, as a means of better communication with their audiences. In July of 2015, Foundations of East Chicago and SMDG, LLC held a “Social Media 101 for Non-Profits” class at Ivy Tech – East Chicago campus as an educational service to local organizations. The information provided explained how to market a non-profit organization in today’s digital world.
There were 41 representatives from local non-profit organizations in attendance for the four-hour event. Many of these organizations were FEC grantees and all attended free of charge.
Post the presentation, attendees were invited to stay for a raffle, which included prizes such as RailCats game tickets and SMDG t-shirts. There were also refreshments served during a miniature SMDG expo which included complimentary individual consultations and assistance with discounted course enrollment.
In the words of an attendee, “For a 101, this was perfect,”
