We Care from the Heart: Home Away from Home
Many members of the homeless population in East Chicago are senior citizens who were evicted from their homes due to failure to pay bills on time and problems with the cleanliness of the home. We Care from the Heart is a nonprofit organization that helps to ensure that these individuals do not end up living on the streets. While the organization offers several homelessness programs, the one that makes the greatest impact is the Home Away from Home program. This initiative works with local group homes to find places for homeless East Chicago residents to live.
