2015 has been an eventful and impactful year for Foundations of East Chicago (FEC) and affiliates! New programs, scholarships, cultural events, education, and outreach has made 2015 rich with diversity.
Today we highlight Moms Taking Charge, a program sponsored by FEC, which operates as a support system for mothers who are the heads of household. Moms Taking Charge aids women and their families by offering transportation to their parenting classes, providing computer access and online resources (such as applying for health benefits or job searching), and organizing speaking events where moms get tips, encouragement, and more.
Mothers involved in Moms Taking Charge have consistently affirmed the program’s usefulness. The following quotes are from program participants:
“The thing I have found the most helpful is the consistent and reliable support. I don’t have family or a support system in East Chicago, so I rely on MTC for a lot.”
“I love this program, I think programs like this should be everywhere.”
“I have found the parenting workshop to be very helpful. I leave with better insight and feeling empowered.”
FEC makes programs like this and others possible.
