WOW Fest, or Working Outside the Walls Festival, is an annual celebration in East Chicago held by Greater Destiny Bible Church. The festival includes live gospel music, Kids Zone, a Senior Tent, and Health Carnival. This marked the church’s eighth year celebration and took place August 2nd. The festival starts with a church service at Greater Destiny Bible Church (GDBC) and follows with activities at the park.

This year included a performance by Grammy-nominated singer James Fortune. Other inspiring performances included Eden’s Creation, Sista Praise, and several local ministry groups. In addition to live music, the festival included three-on-three basketball tournaments, the Kids Zone, a Health Carnival, free food, and back-to-school supplies. Families received free haircuts and braids, school supplies, immunizations and information from the booths in the Health Carnival.

Although WOW Fest started as a smaller activity eight years ago, the celebration now benefits thousands of Northwest Indiana residents and receives funding, services and supplies from many local organizations such as the Foundations of East Chicago, NIPSCO and the School Board of East Chicago.
