Sienna Gonzalez, a 2014 Foundations of East Chicago (FEC) scholarship recipient, is an East Chicago resident who received her scholarship during her time as a student at Bishop Noll Institute in Hammond. After high school, Sienna went on to study biology and Mandarin Chinese at Indiana University (IU).

While at IU, Sienna had the opportunity to continue her study of Mandarin on a school sponsored trip to China. She also used her knowledge of biology in her internship at the Bifengxia Panda Breeding Research Center.

During her time at Bifengxia, Sienna assisted with recording panda behaviors and managing their nutrition and cleanliness. She also was able to use her down time to explore the country and soak up the culture.

Sienna accredits Bishop Noll Prep Academy, formerly Bishop Noll Middle School, for her early start in the study of Mandarin Chinese and FEC with affording her the opportunity to study abroad through their scholarship which helped to send her to IU.

FEC scholarship recipients can use their awards to position themselves for more possibilities in education, travel and the working world. To learn more about what scholarship recipients highlighted in 2016 have done, visit www.FoundationsEC.org.
