When choosing a foreign language to study in school, most people typically go with Spanish, German or French simply because that is all that their school offers. However, several students at Bishop Noll Institute were fortunate enough to be able to study Chinese, a somewhat challenging foreign language, while actually exploring abroad in the country.
One of those students was Foundations of East Chicago (FEC) scholarship recipient Sienna Gonzalez. Sienna, of East Chicago, is studying biology and Mandarin Chinese at Indiana University. During her internship at the Bifengxia Panda Breeding Research Center in China, she recorded the behavior of the pandas as well as helped to manage their nutrition and cleanliness.
Sienna said she credits these opportunities to her early start with the Chinese language at Bishop Noll Prep Academy, the former Bishop Noll middle school. She also acknowledges FEC for the opportunity granted to her when she received their scholarship in 2014.
