Community outreach is very important to the East Chicago Police Department. Holding community outreach programs and events allows police officers to build trust with the citizens of East Chicago and also help officers to have more eyes on public safety. The ECPD Citizens Police Academy trains residents on what might be considered suspicious activity so they can report any crime that they see when officers aren’t around.
