As music has become less important in school curriculum, parents have had to pay for outside music programs for their kids. However, not everyone can afford these classes, so many students have been forced to go without any music education. In the past two years, seven Northwest Indiana organizations have worked to change this by creating the UNIVERSO program. This is a music and art education program that has been implemented in the curriculum for the School City of East Chicago. Here are the organizations responsible for bring music back to East Chicago kids:

-South Shore Arts

-Carnegie Arts

-South Shore Orchestra

-Northwest Indiana Symphony Orchestra

-South Shore Dance Alliance

-Communities in Schools

-School City of East Chicago
